Italian large leaf basil By Saleha Mansoor

Transplanted Italian large leaf basil to grow bag 💗

I have very high hopes for this plant because the soil I have prepared for it has it all. Good moisture retaining, well draining and soft texture. I have used vermicompost, pumice, and cocopeat other than garden soil from old pots. This variety of basil thrives on good moisture and drainage and vermicompost will give it the kick of nutrition as it grows. One of the many best things of using a grow bag is its ability to drain excess water as it goes. You are able to see how much water has reached the soil and whether the plant has been fully drenched or not. Plus it being a fabric, roots are free to attach to the fibre and grow as they please, promoting a healthy root system. I think after seeing my vegetables flourish in grow bags, the most surprising of it all, okra plants having transpiration process going on neatly, I have become more inclined towards growbags compared to clay pots for vegetable plants.
On a lighter note, non-gardeners are always fascinated that why have I kept my plants in black bags used for garbage disposal.🤦🏻‍♀️😃
In Karachi, it is a better time to transplant your plants because another heatwave is due in a few days. If you transplant today or in the next two to three days the plant will have a bit of time to settle before the heat rises.
